SLJ Bonus Activity Special Meal:)

Back in the 1800s, most Māori ate a simple diet. They ate foods that they could catch in the water (eg. fish) or grow on the land (eg. kumara). They did not have access to a supermarket to buy food for their meals! Speaking of meals, what is your favourite meal? Mine is wood-fired pizza. Yum!

For this task we had to post a picture of one of our favorite meals you love / like to eat & write a couple of sentences.
Butter Chicken on Rice:)

Butter Chicken on rice is one of my favorite meals of the day as you can taste so many different flavors & different kinds of sauce's as well. I really enjoy eating Butter Chicken but I hate it when I see other people watch me eat it, which is why I give them some before eating it. The best homemade maker of creating Butter Chicken on Rice is my incredible aunt, she is the best Butter Chicken maker ever. I love the different flavors, different kinds of herbs & it is really healthy. I really enjoy eating Butter Chicken on Rice because my mouth goes mouth - watering. Butter Chicken on Rice is such an amazing meal & I hope it is for you as well. Sorry but I do not know the recipe ( Because my aunt always says, a chef never tells a recipe secret. I hope you enjoy eating it as much as I do & that you just have heaps of fun eating that delicious meal.

Thanks for reading my Butter Chicken on Rice blog post!
Thanks for visiting my blog:)

SLJ It's all in a days work:)

Activity 1: A House or a Home!

In the 1800s, most Māori lived in villages called pa. Each village had many buildings – kauta where people cooked, pataka where they stored goods and wharepuni where the Māori slept. A traditional wharepuni had a thatched roof and walls made of timber, fern, rushes and bark. Look at the picture below of a traditional wharepuni. Does it look like your house?

Activity 2: The Rules of Engagement!

Women were expected to have babies and remain in the home caring for their children. Few, if any, left home in search of work. Men, on the other hand, were expected to work outside of the home. These days, we don’t have the same strict expectations about work. Girls and boys can choose their own path in life. In fact, I was lucky enough to go to university and to follow my dream of becoming a teacher!

When I grow up I really want to become a teacher as I got inspired by the most incredible teachers I have had so far at Pt England School. I would also like to become a teacher as I like to communicate with other kids & I would love to see myself improve by teaching younger ones what they need to learn. I really hope I get the chance to become a teacher & that people around the world who are wanting to become a teacher does. Good luck to me in the future!

SLJ Acknowledging Ancestry:)

Activity 2: Acknowledging Ancestry:)

All of us are members of a family. Some of us have large families and some of us have very small
families. When I have the opportunity to talk about my family and my ancestry I sometimes choose to
use a pepeha. It is a very special way of identifying who I am and where I come from.
There are many different versions of pepeha but most provide people with information about who
you are and where you come from (i.e. your whakapapa).
Ko Mataka te Maunga
Ko Tokerau te Awa
Ko Mataatua te Waka
Ko William, Martha toku tipuna
Ko Nga Puhi toku Iwi
Ko Ngati Rehia te Hapu
Ko Heruhama te Marae
Ko Hinerangi ahau

Ko Maungarei te Maunga
Ko Tamaki te awa
Ko Waitemata te moana
Ko Ruapotaka te Marae
Ko Ukutoia te Papa
Ko Hinerangi Ahau

SLJ Bonus Activity: Waka Ama:)

Well you might be able to guess what our task is today. For this task I was told to watch a short video clip about a Waka Ama Race. A few minutes after watching the video I would have to write a short story on my blog If I would want to participate in this water sport ( Waka Ama!

I would love to participate in this incredible Sport as I have never participated in any kind of water sport before. I would also like to participate in Waka Ama because it is a great sport & I would love to know what It'll actually feel like to paddle hard & fast, how far I could paddle without any stopping & having to get to know other people / communicate with others. Waka Ama is such a great sport for everyone out there who love to be around water. As I was watchng the movie I could see how much training It'll take all of them to finish off the race. To me this kind of sport looks a bit challenging & a bit of work to do. I would definetely like to give Waka Ama a go some day!

WK 1: In the Beginning, SLJ!

Wk 1: In the Beginning ( 1800 - 1870:
Day 1: Arriving in Aotearoa
Activity 1: The first settlers:)

It is widely believed that the first people to arrive in New Zealand came from Polynesia. Most historians believe that they landed in New Zealand over 700 years ago. Although they were originally from many different countries, these settlers learned to live together and, eventually, formed their own distinct culture known as ‘Māori.’  Māori have their own language, traditions, and culture.

Follow this link to read a short story about a famous man in Māori mythology – Maui. On your blog, post three facts that you learned about this interesting man. What other stories have you heard about Maui?

Stories of Maui:)

- Maui and the sun
- Maui and the giant fish

3 interesting facts about Maui!

Fact 1: Maui's brothers did not believe in Maui until he said I'll prove them all how good / awesome I am.

Fact 2: Maui's mother would always get mad at Maui as she never get's time to finish off her work, which is why Maui got hooked by his brother's ( This description was found on this link here!

Fact 3: Maui was such a good boy as well as a caring & kind sun. He loved his family so very much & had finally noticed that he had to slow down as everyone was getting a bit mad at him, but then he turned out to be a good sun.
