Bonus Activity: As part of the Matariki festival, there is a two day Kapa Haka competition. The haka is a traditional war dance that Maori performed before going into battle. The haka is now performed by children/adults in the community and by professional sporting teams, including our national rugby team, the ‘All Blacks.’ The All Blacks have performed various haka over the years. Watch the following three haka videos (1 – 3) and, on your blog, list the haka videos in order from best (#1) to worst (#3). There are no right or wrong answers ☺
---------------
#1. World Cup 2015 – All Blacks vs Argentina
#2. All Blacks vs South Africa 2016
#3. Rugby World Cup 2011- All Blacks vs France
------------------------------
(Best of the Best:) number #2 was the best haka of them all because it did look like a haka I have seen before at school & it sure did sound like it, I've also chosen this one because it was a haka that my Mum & Dad use to perform back when they were little kids.
(Not so bad:) number #3. because I could feel the emotion that they were also feeling, I had also chosen this one because you can see how hard they have worked for putting on a game and not only a game a haka to go with it as well.
(Not so good:) number #1. was my least favourite haka because they didn't try hard enough which is actually hard work. Of course why would they want to lose there energy if they are finishing or starting a game. How would you feel if you were to perform straight after or before a game?
I would like to say sorry to the All Blacks for trying your best but just like Rachel said there is no right or wrong answers. Thanks
Kia ora Hinerangi,
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see that you ranked the videos and you provided us with a great explanation for why you selected the particular ranking. Nicely done!
I see from your post that you liked haka #2 the best because it reminded you of a haka that you had seen at school. Who performed that haka at school? Was it a kapa haka group? Aronui is thinking of joining a kapa haka group at his school next year. I really hope that he does!
Cheers,
Rachel
Hi Rachel,
DeleteThe people who performed this haka was the senior Ponamu group. And as I said it is a haka group but I just forgot it's name. It's great news to hear that your son Aronui is going to join a Kapa Haka group next year. What School does he go to? I really do hope that he makes it in the Kapa Haka group, I do think he is going to make it in. It sounds like he has been practising a lot, Has he?. Can't wait to see you at School.
Yours truly,
Hinerangi
