Bonus Activity: Shake it off:)

Bonus Activity: Shake it Off

In recent years, many New Zealanders have embraced a new form of exercise called
Zumba©. It was developed by a man named Alberto Perez who lives in the country of
Columbia. He created Zumba by bringing together many different dance styles including:
cumbia, mambo, hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, tango, merengue and mambo.

We were to choose one of the dance styles mentioned above and click on the name to
read more about it. Once we have completed that we had to post three interesting facts
about the dance style on our blog. In which country did it originate? Who originally created it?

Activity 1: Chasing Great
Over the past 17 years New Zealand has experienced a number of sporting highlights, perhaps none larger than the back-to-back Rugby World Cup victories in 2011 and 2015. In both competitions our national rugby team, the All Blacks, was captained by a man named Richie McCaw. He is arguably one of the best rugby players of all time. A movie called Chasing Great was recently created to document his incredible rugby career.

Please watch the trailer for Chasing Great and read about Richie McCaw online. On your blog tell us three things that you learned about Richie that you did not know beforehand. What else would you like to know about Richie?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3 Facts I didn't know abut Richie were things like:)

1:) He was born on the 31st of December 1980 & his full name is Richard Hugh Mccaw.

2:) He made his debut in the early 2000's - 2001 for his old Rugby team the Crusaders, and was selected for the All Blacks in 2001 for his end of year tour.

3:) Richie Mccaw has also equaled the Rugby record for most appearances at the Rugby World Cup with Jason Leonard.

So there we have it, here are the 3 things I didn't know about Richie Mccaw. I really hope you enjoyed my blog post mainly about Richard Hugh Mccaw. It was an easy & a really fun task to do, especially when I was feeling very exhausted. It was so fun doing this. I hope you enjoyed my very short blog post & I do hope you stay tuned in for more upcoming blog posts soon.

SLJ: Making a Fashion Statement:)

Activity 2: Making a Fashion Statement
In the years following World War II, things slowly returned to normal in New Zealand. Soldiers returned home and settled back into regular life; and national sporting teams, like the New Zealand cricket team, got back together and started playing matches again. In the late 1940s, men and women would go to watch these events, men wearing hats and suits and women wearing dresses, hats, and gloves.

Compare the pictures of common clothing from the late 1940s to what you wear now (i.e. in 2017). Are they similar or are they quite different?

On your blog tell us which of the two styles you prefer and why. The pictures above were taken over 65 years ago! What do you think people will
be wearing 65 years from now?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I have chosen the kids style as it is more of me & I am still a kid. I would rather prefer the kids style as I've never warn hats like that, I've never seen myself wear a dress in 5 years & I really want to see what It'll be like to be in the 1950's as I've never been in those days before, ( Obviously ). I would also prefer the kids style as it is the kind of clothes I use to wear & is kind of how I used to dress up like.

I think people all around the world wear clothes like........

T - Shirts, Jeans, Track Pants, Overalls, Shorts, Leather Jackets, Jumpers, Vest, Suits, Skirts, gloves & much more other clothes that I just can't remember / name. So these kind of clothing I think people all around the world wear.

I really hope use enjoyed & I do hope use all stay tuned for more upcoming blog posts,
Thank you for visiting my blog:)

SLJ: popular Culture:)

Activity 1: Popular Culture – The Silent Movie
The 1920s saw a massive surge in the number of people going to the movies. Huge new cinemas were built in both Auckland (The Civic Theatre) and Dunedin (Empire De Luxe).  The most popular type of movies showing at local NZ cinemas were ‘silent’ films. Gold Rush is an example of an iconic silent film. It features a famous actor named Charlie Chaplin.

Watch the trailer for Gold Rush. On your blog, tell us what you think the movie is about. There are no words spoken movie so you will need to pay careful attention to what the actors are doing! Do you think you would enjoy watching a silent film? Why/Why not?
--------------------------------------------------
Activity 1: Popular Culture – The Silent Movie

What I really think this movie is about is that everyone that was in this film was extremely hoping to find a much more better life by searching for a lot of gold. As I was watching the movie I could see 4 people called the 4 destinies, which was:

The adventurer
The out law
The dancer
& the tramp.

To be honest I would not like to watch a silent film that has absolutely no sound in it. I would also not like to watch a silent film as everyone around you would be disturbing, annoying & absolutely no chance for all of us to be focussing on the Screen / Television. This film was alright to watch but all we were missing was a bit of sound.

So I would actually prefer not to watch a silent film:)

Activity 2: Art Deco

In the 1920s a new artistic movement emerged in New Zealand (and around the world). It was called ‘Art Deco.’ The picture to the right is a classic example of an ‘Art De
co’ piece. Take a close look at the painting. Do you like it?

On your blog, give the painting a rating out of 5 stars (1 star = terrible painting, 2 stars = pretty bad painting, 3 stars = okay painting, 4 stars = good painting and 5 stars = amazing painting). After you’ve rated the painting out of 5, tell us why you gave it that rating.

--------------------------------------------

As I am looking at this stylish painting I am really surprised on how incredible the painting looks like. So you might be able to guess what rating I am about to give the painting. Today I am going to rate this amazing, incredible & fabulous painting a 5 star rate. The reason why I choose 5 is because it looks so beautiful as if this was just someone in a car taking a picture.

This looks so significant & incredible. Who ever drew this fantastic paintings I would love to meet you in person as you have drawn this with awesome pride. Awesome painting.

So today I have rated this painting of a 5:)

SLJ: The Waiata - A song in your heart:)

Activity 1: The Waiata - A Song in Your Heart
Image result for kapa haka groups

Here in New Zealand was held a huge Kapa Haka festival which always happens every two years.
The festival was called Te Matatini. This was a performing arts festival which celebrates the
tikanga maori (culture or customs). There were many Kapa Haka groups from all around
Aotearoa and were invited to attend the annual festival. Each group has 25-minutes to perform
there incredible item. The performances were judged by many people but only the best of the
best teams would win the prizes.

This year's gold medal winners for 2017 were the Te Kapa Haka o Whāngārā Mai Tawhiti.
Here are a few video clips performed by the Matatini Kapa Haka group!

Te Iti Kahurangi

Te Puku o Te Ika

Well as I was thinking about Maori Waiata I just remembered a few waiata from School, a few from
youtube & from my incredible whanau. My 2 most favorite waiata is Tiaho Mai Ra & Ka pioioi.
I love listening to a bit of maori music as it is apart of my culture. I had chosen both these waiata
because they both feel / sound really powerful. Tiaho Mai Ra is such a really powerful song as I was
said by my great, great nana. Unfortunately I don’t know what the meaning is & why it is called
Tiaho Mai Ra. Ka pioioi as I was said, that the Ngati Ranana Kapa Haka group performed at the open
ceremony in London held on the 12th of October in 2010. That is how I knew Ka Pioioi. I really love
both waiata’s because it is fast to learn the lyrics & especially the actions.

Bonus points: 6

Activity 2: Playing games:

Many years ago, young Māori kids learned how to play different games, including
Poi Rakau, Ki O Rahi, Koruru Taonga and Poi Toa. Read about each of these four games
on the Rangatahi tu Rangatira website. Have you played any of them before? Isn’t it great to
see many games pass down for many generations?

Choose one game, and on your blog, tell us the (i) name of the game, (ii) the goal or purpose
of the game, and (iii) two rules.

The game I have chosen is Poi Rakau. The two rules about Poi Rakau is that when
the rangatira ( Leader ) calls out Left or Right, but in Te Reo Maori it would be Maui or Ratau,
once you've heard that been said by the leader you would have to adjust yourself to the
spot / place your opponent was standing. Another rule would be that everyone who is
playing Poi Rakau will have to be standing in a circle holding a pou ( a pole each.

My ever first time playing Poi Rakau was when I was a year 4 at Pt England School.
Poi Rakau has been out for many years & is still often played in these days. Poi Rakau is
such a fun game to play for those who love to play with objects / Items & many more
awesome things lying around your house. I would love to try Poi Rakau again as I haven't
participated in this in a very long time.

SLJ Bonus Activity: Waka Ama:)

Well you might be able to guess what our task is today. For this task I was told to watch a short video clip about a Waka Ama Race. A few minutes after watching the video I would have to write a short story on my blog If I would want to participate in this water sport ( Waka Ama!

 Image result for waka ama

I would love to participate in this incredible Sport as I have never participated in any kind of water sport before. I would also like to participate in Waka Ama because it is a great sport & I would love to know what It'll actually feel like to paddle hard & fast, how far I could paddle without any stopping & having to get to know other people / communicate with others. Waka Ama is such a great sport for everyone out there who love to be around water. As I was watchng the movie I could see how much training It'll take all of them to finish off the race. To me this kind of sport looks a bit challenging & a bit of work to do. I would definetely like to give Waka Ama a go some day!
