Bonus Activity: Shake it off:)

Bonus Activity: Shake it Off

In recent years, many New Zealanders have embraced a new form of exercise called
Zumba©. It was developed by a man named Alberto Perez who lives in the country of
Columbia. He created Zumba by bringing together many different dance styles including:
cumbia, mambo, hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, tango, merengue and mambo.

We were to choose one of the dance styles mentioned above and click on the name to
read more about it. Once we have completed that we had to post three interesting facts
about the dance style on our blog. In which country did it originate? Who originally created it?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Activity 1: Celebrating a win

Welcome to Week Four, and the final five days of our journey! Over the past three weeks we have travelled across time and learned about what life was like in New Zealand in the 19th and 20th centuries. We have now reached the 21st Century and are ready to learn about modern life in New Zealand.

Cool Kiwi Fact #5: Sign language became the third official language of New Zealand (alongside Te Reo Māori and English) in 2006.
---------------------------------------------------

Activity 1: Celebrating a win:)

In 2000, the country of New Zealand celebrated when Russell Coutts and his sailing team won their second straight America’s Cup. This was the first time that a team from New Zealand had won back-to-back championships! Many people celebrated the victory with their friends and family.

On your blog, tell us what you and your family do to celebrate special events, such as birthdays. Do you have a special meal or go to a specific place? In our house, we usually make a pizza and bake a special cake. What about you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Birthday's:)

On Birthdays we do things like take the Birthday person out for Lunch & Dinner as well as to find themselve a Birthday cake from the Cheesecake shop. We also get them plenty of presents & a lot of food for the other kids.

Thank you for reading my blog post about Celebrating a win. I really hope you enjoyed please stay tuned for more upcoming posts soon. Thanks heaps:)

Activity 1: Chasing Great
Over the past 17 years New Zealand has experienced a number of sporting highlights, perhaps none larger than the back-to-back Rugby World Cup victories in 2011 and 2015. In both competitions our national rugby team, the All Blacks, was captained by a man named Richie McCaw. He is arguably one of the best rugby players of all time. A movie called Chasing Great was recently created to document his incredible rugby career.

Please watch the trailer for Chasing Great and read about Richie McCaw online. On your blog tell us three things that you learned about Richie that you did not know beforehand. What else would you like to know about Richie?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3 Facts I didn't know abut Richie were things like:)

1:) He was born on the 31st of December 1980 & his full name is Richard Hugh Mccaw.

2:) He made his debut in the early 2000's - 2001 for his old Rugby team the Crusaders, and was selected for the All Blacks in 2001 for his end of year tour.

3:) Richie Mccaw has also equaled the Rugby record for most appearances at the Rugby World Cup with Jason Leonard.

So there we have it, here are the 3 things I didn't know about Richie Mccaw. I really hope you enjoyed my blog post mainly about Richard Hugh Mccaw. It was an easy & a really fun task to do, especially when I was feeling very exhausted. It was so fun doing this. I hope you enjoyed my very short blog post & I do hope you stay tuned in for more upcoming blog posts soon.

Bonus Activity: A Bilingual Schooling system:)

Bonus Activity: A Bilingual Schooling System:)

For much of the past century, schools in New Zealand taught students in only one language – English. In 1972, Ngā Tamatoa member, Mrs. Hana Jackson, submitted a petition to Parliament to ask the government to include the teaching of Te Reo Māori (the Māori language) and Māori culture in New Zealand schools. We still use petitions to this day when we want an organisation (e.g. a school) to make a change.

Think about your school. What is one thing that you would like change. Would you like to learn about different things? Maybe you think school should only be open 3 days a week?

On your blog, write a letter to your principal to try and convince him/her to make the change. Ensure that your letter is polite and respectful.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kia Ora Mr Burt,

There are a few things I would like to change about our School.
Here's some of them:)

1: Bullying:)

Bullying is not the way to change someone else's feelings especially if there feeling upset. Bullying should stop now, It is our time to make bullying stop immediatley / as soon as we can. Bullying could turn into violence & it is not the right thing to do, especially if younger ones are looking at you.

2: Littering:)

Littering is really bad for younger ones as they could get sick & end up in hospital. Littering should stop now, it could cause a lot of damage especially in the ocean / seas. It could cause sea damage by leaving the animals to die / past away. Littering should stop asap, as it is causing a lot of damage & it could get other kids sick & end up in hospital.

3: Teachers & helpers not getting enough sleep:)

Teachers & helpers should be aloud to go home a bit early as they are the ones teaching us things & giving us all work to do. They should get enough sleep as for those who stay up late & gives us all work to do. Many teachers around the world get absolutely no sleep but instead they stay up putting work on the class sites, which is a bit hard.

Here are the 3 reasons of what I would like to change about our school. If you are reading this blog post I am for sure you would be an amazing role model for the younger ones & will keep them out of trouble by, stop bullying & stop all the littering. I really hope you enjoyed & I do hope you stay tuned for more upcoming posts soon.

Thanks for visiting my blog:)

Bonus Activity: You have to pay to play:)

In 1990, for the first time in New Zealand’s history, universities and polytechnics started charging students money to go to school. Prior to then, it had been free to go to university or to a polytechnic. Since 1990, students have had to pay thousands of dollars to attend post-secondary (after high school) education.

The new Labour government have promised to give up to three years of free post-secondary education to all New Zealanders by 2020!

On your blog, tell us what you think. Should students have to pay money (tuition fees) to go to university? Why or why not?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
To be honest I think students all around the world who really want to go to University should pay but then again they shouldn't have to. So I think my opinion for today is going to be in between yes & no. Here's why:)

1:  Over in England it cost's a maximum of $9,000 per student, overall they get a loan for about $5,555 or $7,75, just to help out with the students University supplies & much more other things they need in university.

2: They should pay to go to university but then again they shouldn't, They should as It'll make there life much more easier & more satisfy. They shouldn't pay to go to University especially if it costs over $2,000 & more.

3: The tuition fee pledge includes a deep increase of about $400 every single year, which makes it to the current maximum maintenance loan, This amount of money is probably not enough to satisfy every single student in University.

So there we have it, here are my 3 opinion's on why they should pay to go to University & why they should not. University is such a great community as for those who really want to get a job & actually just studdy for things like getting there drivers licence. Accounting & Finance, Anthropology, Archaeology, Architecture & much more. Thanks for visiting my blog I really hope you enjoyed & I hope you keep close in touch with my blogging.

SLJ: Making a Fashion Statement:)

Activity 2: Making a Fashion Statement
In the years following World War II, things slowly returned to normal in New Zealand. Soldiers returned home and settled back into regular life; and national sporting teams, like the New Zealand cricket team, got back together and started playing matches again. In the late 1940s, men and women would go to watch these events, men wearing hats and suits and women wearing dresses, hats, and gloves.

Compare the pictures of common clothing from the late 1940s to what you wear now (i.e. in 2017). Are they similar or are they quite different?

On your blog tell us which of the two styles you prefer and why. The pictures above were taken over 65 years ago! What do you think people will
be wearing 65 years from now?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I have chosen the kids style as it is more of me & I am still a kid. I would rather prefer the kids style as I've never warn hats like that, I've never seen myself wear a dress in 5 years & I really want to see what It'll be like to be in the 1950's as I've never been in those days before, ( Obviously ). I would also prefer the kids style as it is the kind of clothes I use to wear & is kind of how I used to dress up like.

I think people all around the world wear clothes like........

T - Shirts, Jeans, Track Pants, Overalls, Shorts, Leather Jackets, Jumpers, Vest, Suits, Skirts, gloves & much more other clothes that I just can't remember / name. So these kind of clothing I think people all around the world wear.

I really hope use enjoyed & I do hope use all stay tuned for more upcoming blog posts,
Thank you for visiting my blog:)

SLJ: Coming to an end:)

Activity 1: VE Day!
After six long years of fighting, World War II finally came to an end in 1945. The entire country was ecstatic and parties were thrown all over New Zealand to celebrate VE Day (Victory in Europe). Imagine that you were living in New Zealand in 1945 and you had to plan a VE day party at your house. Who would you invite? What would you do to celebrate?

On your blog, tell us all about your (imaginary) VE party. If it was me, I would invite all of my closest friends and family over to my house for a big barbecue. We would eat ham
burgers and play basketball in the driveway. Some of us would probably walk to the local beach to play soccer on the beach and to go for a swim (if the weather was warm enough)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At my VE party I invited my family & friends to come & join us for a mini picnic / Barbecue. On the Barbecue we have all sorts of Vegetables & piles of meat such as...

Sausages, Chops, Meat patties, Steak & Lamb.

The types of Vegetables we have on the Barbecue is Carrotts, Cucumber, Egg Plant, Avacado, Mushrooms & Corn.

A few minutes before everything is done we all start to head down to the closest Beach. Once we have finished adjusting everything / everyone we all start to eat & start to play a few beach games like...

Beach Volley Ball, Soccer & build Sand Castles.

After we finish doing all of that including to eat, everyone begins to have a 1 or 2 hour swim as well as to play on the playground.

Today was an amazing day, I really enjoyed myself as the VE party was amazing. Everyone had turned up & the food was delicious. I really enjoyed myself & I can't wait for next time. This was a great day & it turned out how I imagined:)

Thanks & I hope you enjoyed my blog post:)

SLJ: Dealing with stress:)

Activity 1: Dealing with Stress
Image result for stress
In New Zealand, many people lost their jobs during this decade. Experts predict that as much as 30% of the population was unemployed. It was a very stressful time for families.

Sadly, many of us still experience stress in our lives to this day. When I feel stressed I try to go for a walk or pop into my local gym for a quick workout. Exercise makes me feel better. What about you?

On your blog, please tell us what you do when you want to relax or de-stress. Do you read a favourite book, watch a favourite television show or talk to someone special?  What are your tips for dealing with stress?

--------------------------------------------------------------

Image result for stress
What I do when I relax or de - stress, is that I either watch one of my favourite TV shows or lay down on the couch. The main TV shows I normally watch is either Shortland Street, Home and away, Neighbours or Robin Hood as it is my favourite brothers cartoon TV show.

When I am stressed I get really annoyed at kids if they............

1: Run around the house after we've cleaned it up ( This is all related to my little brother by the way)

2: Disturb the Movie / TV show we were just watching.

3: Stash rubbish into different kinds of furniture ( Mainly the couches )

4: Messing up the bedrooms / lounge / dining room / kitchen especially when we have just cleaned up these areas of the house ( everything was polished )

When I am not stressed I either read a chapter book or even a comic book. I also have a mini talk with one of my close family members which is my incredible Auncle, his name is Jeremey. I also had a mini pep talk with him early this morning.

So there we have it, here are most of the things I do when I am relaxing or de - stressing & how much I get so annoyed at kids when I am really stressed out. Thanks for reading my blog post about Dealing with stress. I hope you enoyed. Is any of this related to you or about you ? I hope use all enjoyed!

Happy New Year everyone:)

SLJ: popular Culture:)

Activity 1: Popular Culture – The Silent Movie
The 1920s saw a massive surge in the number of people going to the movies. Huge new cinemas were built in both Auckland (The Civic Theatre) and Dunedin (Empire De Luxe).  The most popular type of movies showing at local NZ cinemas were ‘silent’ films. Gold Rush is an example of an iconic silent film. It features a famous actor named Charlie Chaplin.

Watch the trailer for Gold Rush. On your blog, tell us what you think the movie is about. There are no words spoken movie so you will need to pay careful attention to what the actors are doing! Do you think you would enjoy watching a silent film? Why/Why not?
--------------------------------------------------
Activity 1: Popular Culture – The Silent Movie

What I really think this movie is about is that everyone that was in this film was extremely hoping to find a much more better life by searching for a lot of gold. As I was watching the movie I could see 4 people called the 4 destinies, which was:

The adventurer
The out law
The dancer
& the tramp.

To be honest I would not like to watch a silent film that has absolutely no sound in it. I would also not like to watch a silent film as everyone around you would be disturbing, annoying & absolutely no chance for all of us to be focussing on the Screen / Television. This film was alright to watch but all we were missing was a bit of sound.

So I would actually prefer not to watch a silent film:)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Activity 2: Art Deco

In the 1920s a new artistic movement emerged in New Zealand (and around the world). It was called ‘Art Deco.’ The picture to the right is a classic example of an ‘Art De
co’ piece. Take a close look at the painting. Do you like it?

On your blog, give the painting a rating out of 5 stars (1 star = terrible painting, 2 stars = pretty bad painting, 3 stars = okay painting, 4 stars = good painting and 5 stars = amazing painting). After you’ve rated the painting out of 5, tell us why you gave it that rating.

--------------------------------------------

As I am looking at this stylish painting I am really surprised on how incredible the painting looks like. So you might be able to guess what rating I am about to give the painting. Today I am going to rate this amazing, incredible & fabulous painting a 5 star rate. The reason why I choose 5 is because it looks so beautiful as if this was just someone in a car taking a picture.

This looks so significant & incredible. Who ever drew this fantastic paintings I would love to meet you in person as you have drawn this with awesome pride. Awesome painting.

So today I have rated this painting of a 5:)

SLJ Bonus Activity: Crossing the Tasman

Bonus Activity: Crossing the Tasman
In 1928, a crew of four men flew, for the first time, across the Tasman from Australia to New Zealand. One of the men on board the Southern Cross airplane was a New Zealander named T.H. McWilliams. His job was to operate the radio in the airplane. Unfortunately, the radio stopped workin
g shortly after take-off and the rain and ice were so heavy that the pilot, Kingsford Smith, couldn’t see out of his front windscreen. Yikes! Fortunately, the plane made it all the way across the Tasman landing in Christchurch after a 14 hour trip.

Imagine that you were a member of the flight crew. Write a poem that describes how you would have felt when you landed safely in Christchurch after such a long trip. Remember, there are lots of different types of poems, and they don’t all have to rhyme. You can read more about different types of poems by clicking here.

---------------------------------

After traveling for a very long time
We finally landed at a place near by
The place was Christchurch
& I was with Tristan

It was great to see everybody
& I was standing right next to my buddy
her name is Charlie
she loves to eat Bar leaves

It was awesome to be home
as I really missed seeing the gnomes
I cant wait to see my family
cause they are all very lovely.

Thanks for getting us home safely:)

SLJ Bonus Activity: Paying it forward

Bonus Activity: Paying it Forward

In the mid-1930s, things began to change for the better in New Zealand. More people were able to find work and receive a steady paycheck. They were still careful, however, with their money and rarely, if ever, bought treats or gifts for one another.

Imagine that you were able to travel back in time to visit a family in the 1930s. What special gifts or treats would you like to bring with you? I would likely bring blocks of Whittaker’s chocolate, bags of Jet Planes and Pineapple Lumps, healthy food snacks, clothing, and games for the children. What about you?

--------------------------------------------------------------

If I was to go back in time & visit a really grateful & delightful family I would bring.....

  1. Block of Chocolates
  2. Clothes
  3. Food / drinks
  4. Presents
  5. money
  6. Games
If I was to go back in time I would want to take these kind of items to a family in the late 1930's. I would like to take these to people I haven't seen especially to people who have humongous families. These are the items, objects I would take to people back in the 1930's.

SLJ Bonus Activity: Women At work

Bonus Activity: Women at Work
Both men and women served in World War II. Many women chose to enlist as nurses and be stationed overseas caring for wounded soldiers. My nana was one of those nurses. She (Dorothy) spent much of World War II working on a large Red Cross ship that was stationed off the coast o
f Cairo, Egypt.

For this activity, you are going to imagine that you are just like Dorothy and that you are working as a nurse on a large medical ship.

One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you…
___________________________________________________

start to run to where I heard the humongous bang. As I was running I could see & hear more bangs coming from the front of the ship. So I ran straight to the front of the ship, as soon as I got there I could see other doctors running & screaming as there were lot's of bombs shooting from out of the sky. Suddenly the Ship started to fall apart & everyone including me that was in the ship had sank. We were all in the middle of nowhere. Swimming to the closest near by there were 3 dolphins & 2 Whales coming our way, everyone was really scared as they all started screaming. As fast as I could I started swimming to the closest near by & 3 of the dolphins swam straight after me.

Suddenly I had started to drown as my arms & legs became to be entirely sore. Swimming straight after me the dolphins had saved myself & my friends & had gotten all of us to the safest near by land. 51 minutes later....

We all thanked the dolphins but unfortunately 8 of us did not survive as the boat did sink & everyone fell in the deepest part of the ocean. We were so grateful to still be alive as the dolphins did save all of us. The dolphins were all great help & all of us said THANKS TO THEM.

Bonus Points: 20
